MUSIC COMPETITION – Ninada

CLASSICAL VOCAL SOLO - HINDUSTANI AND CARNATIC

  • Only one entry per college is allowed.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is two.
  • Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Carnatic Style.
  • Cinema songs are not allowed under this event.
  • Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of the raga and composition.
  • Judgment will be based on the qualities like swara, taala, composition and general impression.
  • Minimum time of 12 minutes and maximum of 15 minutes is allotted for the song.
CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO - PERCUSSION ( Taala Vadya)
  • Only one entry per college is allowed.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is two.
  • Participants must bring their own instruments.
  • Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Carnatic style.
  • Judgment will be based on the qualities like Taala, compositions and general impression.
  • Minimum time of 12 minutes, maximum of 15 minutes.
CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL SOLO - NON PERCUSSION (Swara Vadya)
  • Only one entry per college is allowed.
  • Maximum number of accompanists is two.
  • Participants must bring their own instruments.
  • Instruments of western origin adapted to Indian Raaga system are allowed.
  • Events can be presented in either Hindustani or Carnatic style.
  • Judgment will most likely be based on the qualities like Swara, Taala, Composition and general impression.
  • Minimum time of 12 minutes, maximum of 15 minutes.
LIGHT VOCAL (INDIAN SOLO)
  • Only one entry per college is allowed.
  • The number of accompanists should not be more than two.
  • Only non filmi songs, Geeta, Ghazal, Bhajan, Shabad, Bhava Geethe, Bhakthi Geete and Abhangas can be presented.
  • Judgment will be made on qualities like Swara, Taala, Composition and General impression, etc.
  • Minimum time of 4 minutes, maximum of 6 minutes.
WESTERN VOCAL (SOLO)
  • Only one entry per college is allowed.
  • The number of accompanists shall not be more than two.
  • The song should be in English only.
  • Judgment will be made on the qualities like composition, Rhythm, Coordination, General impression, etc.
  • Minimum time of 4 minutes, maximum of 6 minutes.
GROUP SONG (INDIAN)
  • Only one team per college is allowed.
  • The group can consist of all boys or all girls or combined.
  • Two group songs will be presented by the same team out of which one will be a folk song while another, a patriotic song.
  • Maximum number of participants in a group is six. Maximum number of accompanists playing instruments shall be three.
  • Accompanists may be professional, in which case they should be in different dress from the student participants, so that they could be easily identified. They will sit or stand separately from the participants and will not lead the team.
  • The group songs should be taken from Indian songs which can be of any regional language.
  • No film or album song should be presented.
  • Maximum time allowed for the group songs is 10 minutes and minimum 8 minutes which does not include setting time. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 4 minutes.
  • Judging of this event will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on other criteria like make up, costumes, etc.
GROUP SONG (WESTERN)
  • Only one team per college is allowed.
  • The group can consist of all boys or all girls or combined.
  • Maximum number of participants in a group is six. Maximum number of accompanists playing instruments shall be three.
  • The group songs should be in English.
  • Maximum time allowed for the group songs is 10 minutes which does not include setting time. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 4 minutes.
  • Judging of this event will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on any other criteria like make-up, costumes, etc.
FOLK ORCHESTRA (INSTRUMENTAL ONLY)
  • Only one team per college is allowed.
  • The team shall consist of up to 12 participants.
  • The group can consist of all boys or all girls or combined.
  • Duration of performance will be minimum of 7 minutes and maximum of 10 minutes. This does not include setting up time which shall not exceed 5 minutes.
  • Accompanists may be professional, in which case they should be in different dress from the student participants, so that they could be easily identified. They will sit or stand separately from the participants and will not lead the team.
  • Team may present preferably those folk tunes which are recognized as folk tunes of the state/ place to which the university/college belongs.
  • Some examples of folk instruments are nagaari, dollu, ekatara, kamsale, choudike, etc.- Only one team per college is allowed.
  • The team shall consist of up to 12 participants.
DANCE COMPETITION – Nritya
FOLK/TRIBAL DANCE (GROUP)
  • Maximum number of participants allowed per team is 10. The minimum number of participants should not be less than 5. The team may consist of all boys, all girls or both.
  • The number of accompanists permissible is 5.
  • The dance can be either tribal or folk dance (Indian style) but not a classical one.
  • Duration of the dance should not exceed more than 10 minutes.
  • 3 copies of a brief note giving the theme and text of the song, if any, is to be submitted along with the entry form at the time of registration.
  • The participating team will be responsible for removal of their sets, properties etc.., immediately after the competition of their dance.
  • Judgment will be based on the basis of rhythm, formation, expression, costume, Make up sets, and over all effects.
  • Film dance/album song will not be taken into account.
  • Any such dance should be selected from Indian culture and tradition.
  • Live music or CDs and Cassettes allowed.
CLASSICAL DANCE (INDIAN) SOLO
  • Each college can send in only one or two participants.
  • The classical dance can be from any of the approved school of dances, Such as Kathak, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam and Odissi etc..,
  • Each participant will be given a minimum time of 12 minutes and maximum time of 15 minutes including the time for preparation.
  • Maximum 3 accompanists are permissible.
  • Judgment will be based basically on the qualities like Taala, Technique, Rhythm, Abhinaya or Expression, Costume, Footwork and general impression, etc
  • Any film dance, classical or other, will not be considered.
  • Three copies of a brief note on the description of dance story involved in it, if any and of the accompanying song, if any, with its meaning in English must be submitted at the time of registration.
